Messanger to support 250 persons in group chats

Facebook is adding a new way to have up to 250 persons in Messenger group chats. The chats which also supported audio or video calls with up to 50 people at a time. The idea is that users in big groups like a sport group or book club will be able to have more modest conversations about things they find interesting or local meet ups that may not be crucial to the entire group.

The Group chats can be viewed by all members of the group, and anyone already in the group can connect to them or be asked in. Crucially, Facebook will not notify you for any message in the thread except you admit the invitation to join. Group admins will also be able to close down chats or set it to only admins which can start threads to help limit spam. Users of other members will be able to filter the thread by getting notifications when they’re directly @-mentioned only.

Yesterday, Facebook rolled out the new features in Messenger for Groups chats.
